A Trio

Here’s what I believe about family photos.

You need to have some of them.  Together. Every. Single Year. No matter how much you don’t want to. No matter how you feel about yourself. Believe me, I have taken photos when I absolutely did NOT want to be in front of a camera. Because I felt heavy. Or didn’t have my makeup on. Or my hair was gross. And don’t get me wrong, I love a pretty picture and much as the next person,  in fact I really  love pretty pictures, that’s kind of why I do what I do, but I also love the silly ones, the goofy ones, the weird ones.  The real ones. Almost as much, if not more. Why? Because someday, when my family looks back at me I can guarantee, they will not notice how heavy I was. Or that I didn’t have makeup on. Or how nasty my hair is. (Or maybe they will and it will make them smile!)  They will remember how much fun we were having.  And it was documented. I want my son to remember the real me. The life we had. The good moments. I love the good moments. They make the bad ones so much more manageable. Perfect pictures are wonderful……they are even better when you are together, because that’s what makes them perfect. Not the way you look.

The reason I keep this blog, is not really for readers, though readers are nice. Opinions are nice. Sharing is nice. It’s my place to document. And remember. And watch growth happen. I get lost here sometimes, at how different things become and look.  The things I was doing. People’s lives I’ve frozen, if just for a moment. Literally and figuratively.

This year was cold. As always.

We took the dogs.

The dogs did not cooperate.

Here is the commentary:

“Mom my teeth are chattering.”

“Stop them for just a minute honey, I’ll buy you Starbucks when we are done.”

“One, Two, Thre……COCO TURN AROUND !”

“One, Tw….ARNIE SIT DOWN!”

“Daddy, put your hand in your pocket, but not like a cowboy, you’re wearing a tie.”

“MOOM your hair is in my face.”

“Mom, Coco just shook her bow off, COCO!!! SIT DOWN AND TURN AROUND!”

“Mom, I can’t get my teeth to stop chattering again, AND WHY DO YOU GET TO WEAR A COAT AND WE DON’T?”

“Yeah, honey, why is that?”

“Because it looks good dang it, stop complaining.”

“Mom, can I get a vanilla frappracinio with some pumpkin in it? and something to eat?”

Needless to say, the puppies were a little preoccupied.

But we got an awesome photo. With my little man’s 2nd grade handwriting in the corner.  And one that I promised with the noses. I love it.  I will probably be wearing that nose a lot this season. (Because it’s completely awesome!)  And the dino dude looks pretty rad in a tie if I do say so myself.  He pulls it off pretty well!
