Fort Laramie: A Little History of America

A while ago I took a field trip with my son’s 4th grade class to Fort Laramie.

I’ve lived in the area for too many years not to have seen this gem, but sometimes seeing things that are close to us is harder to find time to do.

This little state of our is so fully of history, and battles fought and battles won, and incredible survival by those that established themselves here.

I used to play a game when I was a kid, Oregon Trail (I know I’m completely dating myself), and in the game you would have to hunt squirrels and forge rivers and you would die of starvation and dysentery. Which seemed silly at the time… but that was how life was.

And some of it’s preserved here.

Fort Laramie was home to one of the biggest massacres. It was home to many famous military men. It was a stop in the middle of the prairie on the way to gold.

If you’re looking for something to do with the family over the 4th, check it out. I’ve heard they have great fireworks there! L1L2L3L4L5L6L7L9L11L12L13L14L15L16L17L18
