Beaver Meadows at Red Feather Colorado

In leiu of parties and people and noise and chaos we decided to take our family away for a couple days for our birthdays. It was something that we have been needing for a good time now.

It was the perfect decision.

Deciding to stay close to home we traveled south to Red Feather. We stayed in Beaver Meadows Lodge. You can rent cabins or stay in a little 8 room lodge at the top of the hill. Which is what we chose to do. (or should say, that’s what was left) and we were pretty much in heaven as soon as we arrived. Off of 287 you wind your way back into the mountains about an hour. And there it is. Snug in a little valley.  Away from the world.

There is a pile of wood cut for you and ready to burn in the fireplace sitting on your doorstep. I started a fire immediately. (Have I mentioned that I’m an excellent fire starter?….I am.) I put my feet up and poured myself a glass of wine. And slept until dinner time. Sweet sweet sleep. There is one little restaurant there.  You don’t have to drive… you walk down a little trail. Quaint. Unfancy.  Hits the spot.

I woke early in the morning, as I always do. It’s one of my favorite things about traveling. Waking before everyone and exploring all by myself. Sitting on the bridge with a cup of coffee. My breath spilling out in the air. I got to see the sun rise over the mountains. The horses and I shared the moment  together.  By the time I got back… there was a pillow fight going on in my room. I love pillow fights. I almost always win them.

And then… it was time for tubing.  It’s was on my list, you know the one that is miles and miles long of things I need to try and do.  There are 6 hills there with a lift. (There is also ice skating, fishing, sleigh rides, ect….I could have stayed a couple more days easily) I’m prety sure I was just as excited to do this as my son was. It was completely awesome. And let me tell you…. double riding, you can’t help but scream. (At least I couldn’t!) The sound of my half laugh half yell was probably resounding through the hills. At the end I would jump up with my fists in the air with a grin from ear to ear always yelling “LETS GO AGAIN!!!” Oh, and the Dino dude liked it too :).  We had some friends drive up later in the morning to join us for a bit and to hear the sound of their yells and laughter was absolutely priceless.  And then after it was over… I took a flying leap on the ice skating rink and slid across on my belly.  It was the awesomest moves of awesomest moves.

Here is the information for Beaver Meadows in case you were wondering. It’s well worth it to stay and enjoy yourself.
