Earth Day Flops 2014

Well, today was Earth Day. I tried and failed many, many projects. Fusing plastic bags to form shapes is completely impossible AND when you melt them in a pan of oil, they stink and turn into a hug blob goo, which you can mold, but it’s kind of gross.  But, now I know, if all my dishes broke, or I were to get burglarized, I could, if I had to, turn Walmart bags into bowls over an open fire. Let’s just hope that doesn’t ever happen.

They would look like this…a bowl full of brains.

Meanwhile, school let out early and I forgot.

I FORGOT my child.

Stellar parental moment.

Here is how the conversation went with sweet lady at school:

Hi Stacey!

Well, hi sweet school lady! How are you? How’s everything going for you today? Is Dino Dude sick?

Well no….it was an early release today.

Silence.

Throat groan.

CRAP.

So…. all I could think of while driving the 5 blocks to the school was the time I was left at school, by my mom, who forgot me,  and I decided to walk to where my mom was (from a new school in a new BIG town) and ended up getting horribly lost and completely panicked. And I cried and cried. And then my big, much older brother, with a car full of his buddies,  found me walking along main street sobbing. I was horrified.

I pictured my kid sitting  there sobbing.

And he wasn’t.

He was happy as a lark.

So, when we got home, we tried another project, one we had already done years ago. We painted with natural colors, boiled food and spices. And it turned out awesome. And then the neighborhood kids showed up to play and all was good in the world again.

Happy Earth Day All. Be kind to it, it’s the only one we’ve got.
