Most 4th of July holidays have been spent away from home. With the exception of the year we had a wedding rehearsal dinner in our back yard for a family member and one of the children caught his hair on fire with a sparkler and was beaten atop the head by his grandmother to put it out. I can’t really remember when we stayed at home. I have been fortunate enough to be able to see fireworks in cities, in the country and all over kingdom come. So this year we stayed put.
It was nice. It was a perfect summer day. Hot. We had no real plans except to have fun with one another. And eat some good food. That’s about it.
We laughed and played and danced. The three of us had a major water war in the back yard. (There are no photos of the actual war as we were too busy bombing one another with water balloons.) We ate lunch out. We ate dinner at the picnic table, under the twinkle lights (my favorite, favorite place to be in the summer time) I made layered jello. Which is not a difficult process… just time consuming. (for directions, go here) We watched fireworks.
It was perfect. I couldn’t have asked for a better day.
