The Year of the Skeeters

Well… we were off camping for an evening yesterday. Once again, some were more reluctant than others (the weather was calling for large damaging hail…I was against the trip the morning of) but I went anyway. Knowing I would survive. I prepared for weather. I prepared for water. But I did not prepare for mosquitoes. Thousands of mosquitoes. We’ve never really had to deal with them too much before, probably because we don’t normally stay directly next to the water. A couple layers of Deet and Cutter and a roaring fire…we were a bit better off.

It’s nice sometimes to breath in and out. And just watch the trees blow. I wished I had brought my hammock.  Next time.

I woke up to the most beautiful sun coming through the trees of the aspen grove next to me.  I sat and shot and shot and shot. Morning sun bever gets old to me.  Never.  My sweet Kokomo (that is her nickname) followed me. I always wake before most anyone is even beginning to stir. So I walked. And walked. It was so still. By the time I got back to camp…I was needing a nap.

I had a little boy wake with so many bites he didn’t know what to do with himself. He just sat in the aspens trying really hard not to itch.

I had this taken, just to prove to my older brother, that I do enjoy the outdoors too….and I do it with an awesome coffee mug from the 70’s . Would be camping without my coffee mug from the 70’s with me. Now if I could only convince my family to buy a VW camper bus and trade in the popup…I’d be perfectly content.

She caught her first fish.  She ran away from it. She only posed with the second one she caught.

Marshmallows and beer. Really, do you need anything else? The men don’t.

The mosquitoes are HORRIBLE this year. We went to an outdoor wedding a couple weeks ago and the next morning, my legs looked like I had chicken pox. No exaggeration. They are terrible!!!!
