What to Wear
I get asked all the time “what should I wear to my shoot?”
First and foremost, I want you to be YOU. Whatever style that may be. That’s where we’ll start.
Secondly, more than likely, you’ve been planning this session for a while now. You are making an investment in the photos themselves, so it’s probably not a terrible idea to look nice. Right? I’m not talking about renting a tux and putting a formal gown on (though if you want, that would be amazing and I would have a blast) but let’s ditch the Spiderman t-shirts. Unless you want to shoot in your home, or front porch or backyard and I’ll catch you all in Spiderman t-shirts and torn pajama bottoms. I want to capture you! It’s your session! Let’s make it what you want!
If you need help shopping, I can help you do that. I can give you ideas. If you need help with colors I can help with that. I think a lot of people think they need to match in the photos. No so. You just need to go together. If you want to match that’s fine, but having someone with an element that stands out, that doesn’t match, is important. Accessories are the greatest way to bring that something extra. Don’t forget about those. Scarves, hats, jewelry, shoes, boots…etc. Different patterns and textures. Stripes can go with polka dots, if put together right. Don’t be afraid to be different. Don’t be afraid of color. Please throw some color in there. It makes a huge difference in your photos.
Please don’t be afraid to ask either.
Your photos will most likely be hanging in your home. Think about what goes with your wall colors. Do you like black and white or color (you receive both)
Take your time.
Don’t let it stress you out. Make it fun. Let me help you make it fun. Send me pictures of what you are thinking, we can decide together!
Seniors…. this is your chance to be you!
I am a firm believer that you should look like you! But I also want to make these photos really amazing and unique to your personality.
Most seniors choose to have three or four different outfit changes.
A more formal dressy outfit (and if dressy means wearing a formal gown, lace or chiffon dresses, bow ties, suits I’m all for that!!!!) a more casual outfit, jeans and shirts (please avoid anything with logos) and maybe something that has something to do with your high school activities/ hobbies or interests. (While I encourage you to have photographs with letterman jackets, etc, I don’t encourage you to make that the center of your photoshoot. While these activities are a huge part of your life, they are not normally what will be hanging on the wall. )
TRY YOUR CLOTHES ON before the shoot. And IRON them. I know this seems like something I shouldn’t have to remind you of. Also, while I was huge fan of short skirts as a teenager, please have spandex shorts on underneath so you are able to sit. I don’t feel the need for you to be perfectly styled, but since it is something you’ve probably been preparing for…. for a while, please take a bit to make it awesome with me.
Have variety in your clothing choices. Something classic. Something trendy. Something that signifies the times. Something that will sustain through the times.
I want to capture your personality. I want to make it fun. And I can help you pick your colors and combinations that work well together. If you want your hair done, I can recommend someone as well as makeup. But it is not necessary at all. Boys, please don’t have your hair cut the day before. Girls either. If you need help with certain colors, please feel free to send me photos (text) or even FaceTime with me. If you really need it, I will come into your closet and pick it all out for you or help you shop!
I want you to be you. In this moment in life. Senior year only happens once in a lifetime.
They will be photos that not only you look back on, but also parents and grandparents, friends and family. Let’s make them amazing!!!!
