The Mud Room Re-do

So the other weekend, we had an afternoon where we didn’t have anything to do for almost 5 hours. That’s kind of unheard of around here. So I gave my husband a choice of two projects we could work on. I always have a running list of projects. (Not honey do’s, I never have a list of those, in fact it’s kind of the opposite at my house. My husband has to bug me to get things done sometimes.) I don’t know what I would do  in a house where there isn’t something I want to build, or re-do, or paint. I seem to get a kick out of it!  Anyway, we chose the mud room. It was getting a little cluttered in there. Too much stuff laying around. We both have a tough time with stuff  hanging around. Things need places to live. Sooooo, for the first time, we framed, built and painted some beautiful storage benches and shelves. (We had NO IDEA what we were doing when we started. We watched video after video about framing, until we finally got the gist of it.)

It turned out beautifully. We were really proud of ourselves, because honestly, I think we both thought it was going to be much more of a disaster.

My postcard board got to stay (a place where I keep a postcard of all the places we’ve been.) But everything is completely new!!!  There is storage  in each bench, enough to keep a several bags of pellets (we have a pellet stove) and boots and gloves and so much more. I ordered custom cushions for it, they will hopefully be here by Thanksgiving or shortly thereafter.

The before picture is pretty awful, I was in a hurry, but you get the idea right?

And thank you to the husband who goes along with all my whims, even though you don’t like to build or hang things. 🙂
