Lighting the Way…With Ice

Since it’s been so stinking cold here (was in the -20s and teens this past week!), we decided to try a little project/ experiment to light the way this past weekend. Kids are pretty easily entertained and pretty much loose their brains when it come to making water balloons (at least that’s what mine does.) So we filled up some big balloons and stuck them out in the snow for the day. By the end of the day, they were frozen half way, the part that was still in the snow was still water. Which wasn’t really what I was going for, but it worked out so much better than I imagined. It was really,  really beautiful. We turned them over and made domes out of half of them and stuck a little led tealight underneath. A-maz-ing. The other half we turned over like bowls. And the Dino Dude thought I was the coolest mom alive for freezing water balloons.  Definitely try this. It’s cheap and easy fun, and it gives the kiddos something to look forward to all day.  We forgot one though and it did turn into a giant ice ball. Also very cool.
