Sometimes a person just has to put up walls.
Brick ones.
And sometimes it’s insanely messy.
And you love it.
And when you’re visiting a home improvement store, scoping out a new tile cutter, while wearing a skirt and holding your kiddo’s hand, a group of workers will offer their ‘professional help” and you respond “no thank you, I’m taking care of this myself.” Saying this, knowing that if you had been standing there in your work clothes (which you have been told to replace the pants because the holes in the ass are getting a little embarrassing) the conversation might have been different.
And sometimes you work late at night and early in the morning with headphones on that have been covered in paint.
And sometimes your hands hurt.
And you love it.
Because it feeds the soul…that hard work.
Because even though your filthy looking, you glow.

I decided it was probably time to tackle this room. I had been putting it off for quite a while, because I knew it would kind of be a monster of a job. It was first wall tile project I had done. I wanted it to look like an exposed brick wall. I wanted it to look messy. And it turned out just that. I didn’t want it to look shiny, like tile, so I just cleaned it with vinegar instead of putting on a sealer. It’s ok if it looks worn out, that’s what I was going for. I think, if I were to do it again though, I would grout it with a bag instead. I used two different kinds of brick and mixed them all together, because I thought red would be too dark. And it worked wonderfully.
So phase 1 of the project is done. Onto the next……
