The Lost City

Legend has it that “Atlantis is a “lost” island subcontinent often idealized as an advanced, utopian society holding wisdom that could bring world peace.”

I got to visit the modern day Atlantis.

In the Bahamas.

And the best way I can describe it is as Las Vegas on an Island.

There are thousands of people there.

There are thousands of pools and slides and slot machines.

There are thousands of fish and sharks and stingrays and dolphins, and tunnels and stairs and winding ways.

It’s extravagant and luxurious.

The sea around it is the most gorgeous color of aqua.

It’s loud. And crazy. And I don’t think it’s a place that will bring world peace.

It’s extremely easy to get lost.  Not easy to leave.

There’s sea glass everywhere if you look hard enough for it and if it’s too windy to have your morning coffee on the beach, the fish will keep you company.

I got to see it, thanks to my other half, for being one of the nations leading mortgage lenders for his bank. And we got to celebrate him. And I am very proud of him for that.

I was able to spend an evening eating conch (they pronounced in conk) downtown, on another part of the Island. (AMAZING FOOD….if you visit, don’t skip the Fish Fry area)

The area outside of the resorts is much much different than the resort area and I was surprised that the natives had a Jamaican accent, as I thought they would be British.

I was also able to spend a day with the Flamingos, and albino peacocks and colorful birds while my husband fished for fish that get eaten by sharks.  What could be better than that? (I’ve long ago decided sea fishing is not something I can do.)
