The Jewels

About a year ago, my mom was here visiting, and I was showing her a website that my photographs were on and she said to me “You know, I’ve never really thought about the person who actually takes the photos for these things, for catalogs and websites” and I think that was about the point in time, when my mom decided that maybe my job might kind of be a little bit more real than she thought before that.

I’m a photographer.

It was a sentence that even I had a hard time saying to people.  Artists, by nature have a hard time valuing their own work. Question themselves often.

But now, with so many years of practice …. I say it with confidence. “I’m a photographer.”  And leave it at that.

For the last couple of years (and for many years to come, I hope) , I have collaborated with an artist here in town, a jewelry artist (among many things)

We became fast friends and when we get together our little arty minds start going a mile a minute. There are just too many ideas swimming around in there!!!!

What I love about her, is that she trusts me as a photographer and values my opinion and my ideas… and trusts me to go with them. And while I absolutely adore the babies and kids and families I shoot, I am able to spread my wings a little with her. And the final product normally ends up pretty amazing.

I try to wait until everything is out and up for sale before I share our work, so here is some of our last bunch we put together! And even our furry friends are included this time!

I get asked often where I get my jewelry from or belts, or who makes it. Almost on a daily basis if I’m dressed and out and about.  This is it, people. If I didn’t love it and wear it myself, I wouldn’t shoot it.  Period. I’m that kind of girl.
