I woke up early yesterday morning to cold cold weather. It’s winter here in the 307 and the days are short and cold.  And, I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again….I pretty much despise being cold.  I only really like snow for a few days a year, so I have to find a happy place during the long winter months. But since I was up so early, I threw my camera in the car on the way to the coffee shop and snapped a couple of shots.

Normally… snow only sparkles right after it comes down. After that it looses its shine. I caught it just at the right moment. And I admit, it looks magical. And pretty. And I kinda liked it. Until my fingers felt as if they could break and fall off. Then I was done.

Shortly thereafter, I jumped in Woody with my favorite ex-sister in law and headed south. It was no warmer there, but we made a day of it at the antique shops and flea markets. Now this time of year, I get very nostalgic for my childhood toys and things. Getting older does that to me. I have been known to purchase Strawberry Shortcake records, Gloworms…etc.  This time I came home with a ghetto blaster. If you are too young to know what that is….Í kind of feel sorry for you. They were the awesome of awesomeness. Or should I call it rad. Yeah, definately rad.  I had been looking for one this summer to no avail, as the prices for them were sky high.

It is impossible for me to turn a ghetto blaster on and not break out into immediate dance and grin ear to ear. And normally I have to control myself from not jumping on the bed to dance (that’s what I used to do when I was a kid, I would sneak into my brother’s room and listen to “Juke Box Hero” jumping feverishily on his bed. Yeah, I was totally that kind of sister. )

And instead of hiding it down in the dungeon (the coal room, where all old appliances live) it now hangs proudly on my wall in my White Space.  This was after I had my kiddo posed with it (he’s been infatuated with ghetto blasters for a while now too, so he was happy to see it find this place for its forever home, we also when it gets warmer have some more amazing photo idea, that may or may not include him holding above his head in a John Cusack kind of way.) and I took some random photos to turn into random computerized art. I also couldn’t include a picture of the White Space without showing you a picture of the Hand of the Hulk. The green chair. The first time the Dino Dude sat in it, he haid “Mom!! it’s like sitting in the hand of the Hulk.”

So I think, despite the snow and subzero weather, I found a happy place.
