Sparkles and Shine, Gold and Glitter, Kisses and Hugs

Celebrating the new year…the one day that the whole world, hour by hour,  gets a fresh start.

We get to reflect on all the things, positive and negative, that happened to us in the past year.

We get to try to decide how to spend the upcoming days. How to change things. What to leave the same. Making plans. Making promises. Some kept, some slip away, not normally on purpose though.

We sing of old acquaintances from long ago. Should we forget them? But by the end of the song, everyone is having a drink together.  (It’s an Irish song…. is there any other way for it to end?)

It’s a magical night really, full of sparkles and shine.

Gold and glitter.

And kisses and hugs.

My little boy has spent the last few days with a fever and cough, so we rang in the New Year in bed, watching the Waterford Chrystal ball drop in Times Square and toasted with milk.

He perked up enough to try some new equipment out with me during the day, but immediately fell asleep for 5 hours after.

I have spent the last few weeks cleaning out my entire house. Closets, drawers, under beds, under couches. Christmas was carefully boxed up for another year.  I like to start the year off clean. And today, I will begin a new year, full of plans. Maybe some joy, maybe some sorrow, lots of love, and I know many, many blessings.

Song: Auld Lang Syne, Mairi Campbell.  This is my favorite version.  It’s quiet and peaceful and full of emotion. It gets me everytime.
