Valentines Day Lessons

So, I learned something last night, about making Valentines.

My son and I started the project of making his Valentine boxes to take to school. Halfway through the project, we got hungry, so we decided to go grab dinner, and merrily went along on our way.

Not the most genius idea.

Do you know why?…. because when we came home, we walked in the door to find torn valentines and eaten candy strewn all over the house.

I happen to have two of least self controlled dogs when it comes to food being left unattended. And when they are caught, one will act as if he doesn’t deserve to live, he hangs his head and closes his eyes and is the most pathetic sight on the planet.  The other will look at you, and wink and blink as if I placed the food there just for her taking,  wondering if she can have more. And she smiles. Really, she does.  I have a difficult time being mad at either of them.

My son walked in and saw the mess and immediately threw himself on the couch, face down, tears streaming…his life was over.

But if there is anything I’ve tried to teach my son….is that stuff is just stuff.   It’s Ok if things get broken. Things are fixable, and if they can’t be fixed they can be replaced.  Not a big deal.

So we fixed things and Valentines Day was saved.

Just a word to wise….dogs love heart candy and zots.

It’s been a good week leading up to the big day of love. I’ve come home to find great surprises and notes. I made loft house cookies (which everybody I know call them the biscuit cookies) and I made the frosting with REAL butter this time. They came out sooooooo stinking good. (You can find the recipe here) I also made a quick bracelet to celebrate the week, you can find the video tutorial here!)

So, have a Happy Valentines Day everybody. Go spread the love.
