Here We Come a Wassailing

I always wondered where the drink wassail came from.  And with a quick google search (seriously, it was hard to imagine what life was like without google. ) I learned that it first originated around the 12th century. It typically meant to “toast to ones health”…to “was hæi”.  AND it also is and hot mulled drink. Most times it was made with beer or wine with mulling spices.

Ours is not made with beer or wine, I’m not sure where and when the recipe went from hot liquor to hot juice,  but it’s amazing none-the-less. There’s nothing like the smell of it wafting through the house at  Christmas. You can cook it on the stove, you  don’t have to have it in a crock pot.  I posted this recipe about 7 years ago. And it’s always good to bring things back around, in case you forgot about them!
