Family Crawdaddy Day

We had the annual crawfish broil this past weekend. A tradition my husband and I have been doing since college when we accidentally came upon crawfish in one of the local mountain lakes. We catch them at night when they are slow with head lamps and boots. Always an adventure. We changed it up this year a bit as we had our family with us this time…which meant we got to teach all the grandparents and great grandparents how to each crawfish. And a couple of them how to catch them. We were also sure to make sure there was plenty of other food in case they were a little put off by the water bugs. That didn’t stop my husband’s grandmother from bringing a bucket of chicken. Of course I didn’t get very many pictures which I regret, but I was nice not to have the black machine in my hand all day too.

The Dino Dude and I made these sweet little crawdaddy cookies that morning. Very easy Pinterest find. He took care of the claws and eyes and I did the frosting. The cookies are just lady fingers you can find at any grocery store.
