Baseball and Cows and Weather

My little Dino Dude finished the baseball season this past weekend. I couldn’t be more proud of him as the whole season was one big lesson for him. His patience and stamina really shown through. It’s been fun to watch him grow into himself and show actual athletic ability as well, changing from that tiny little boy to a lanky kid out there running like a human instead of a deer. He’s done with soccer as well, so now we have a little break. What shall we do? Golf? Tennis?

Yesterday morning I got my family up bright and early to watch the livestock drive come through. It marks the beginning of Frontier Days, which we will not be partaking in much of this year, so I thought we could at least see the 550 cattle start their way into town. We’ve never seen it.  I would love to someday be involved in a real cattle drive, but today, this had to do. And now my city, just a few blocks from where I live, has become a different world to us. Full of cows, and horses and singers crazed carnival goers. It’s a wonderful thing for our town and I’m proud of everyone who helps and organizes it.

And then the day kind of went down hill. Fast. There wasn’t much of a warning this time, and before I knew it we were holed up in the basement with the dogs. I’m still unsure of where the tornado touched down, as I heard it did. The last thing I saw on my way down the stairs as I peeked out the door,  was my little cotton wood tree completely bent over, laying on the ground.

The garden is sticks.  I had just uncovered the tomatoes from underneath the windows. But in a couple hours we were out there cleaning it up, knowing that it will probably come back  and being sad over can’t help. Don’t get me wrong, we pouted over it for a good couple hours. However, it’s happened before and it will happen again. We cleaned as a family. My little cottonwood is strong and is standing tall and proud. And my roses will bloom again.

We live in such a little bubble of a forest. My house is completely surrounded by trees. The pictures on the left were on my sidewalk, the next one in my neighbors. Clean up is a bit different at my house!

The picture on the left was taken Saturday morning, the picture on the right was taken last night. There are still buds and blossoms, it will survive!
