Butterbeer

My little one and I have a tradition on Friday nights.

We curl up with some popcorn or whatever treat we decide would be awesome for the night and watch a movie in the loft, and then we sleep up there in the white room. We don’t watch a whole lot of TV together, so this is just our thing. I’m normally fall asleep before he does, he’s much more of a party animal than I am!

This fall, we decided we would have a Harry Potter marathon. Every Friday we are watching a new Harry. He’s a little too young yet for the books, at least to read by himself, but I absolutely can’t wait for him to be able to read them. I never really was very interested in magic, etc when I was growing up reading, I stuck to Nancy Drew, and Judy Blume. But when Harry Potter came out, I completely jumped on that wagon. I think what I loved about the books was that they were written by someone like me. A mom. Someone, who randomly had an idea on a train…… and then made it come to life. Her imagination absolutely blows me away. I wish everyone could have that kind of imagination. And no, I don’t think these books are trying to convert children into witches and wizards or trying to brainwash them into dark worlds. I believe they promote massive amounts of creativity, open-mindedness, silly heartedness and fun. A daydreamers wonderland.

Well, to go along with our movies, there are so many recipes that one needs to try from the Harry Potter world. Butterbeer was our first try.  If you’ve ever had a hot buttered rum…. this is very much like that! Only without the liquor. A great new way to enjoy cream soda for sure!!
